Middlethorpe Hall & Spa is housed in a 300-year-old red brick and limestone building, in a style influenced by Sir Christopher Wren, and set in 20 acres of grounds just outside York city centre.

In 2024, Middlethorpe Hall celebrates its 40th anniversary as a hotel. One of the National Trust’s three Historic House Hotels, it offers 29 individually decorated bedrooms, an award-winning two AA Rosette restaurant and a boutique spa with its own indoor pool. 

The hotel has the ambiance of a well-kept private country house, but one within easy access of the city of York’s attractions. Guests are invited to explore the elegant public rooms and the exquisite gardens and parkland. 

The Drawing Room and Library are elegant settings for enjoying afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks. Both rooms boast magnificent views through large sash windows to manicured lawns, leading to the elegant ha-ha and the park beyond, where wild deer can often be spotted.

After exploring the gardens, or York itself, guests can return to Middlethorpe Hall for a candle-lit fine-dining feast. The panelled dining rooms overlooking the gardens and the combined experience of Head Chef Ashley Binder and Pastry Chef Paul Harrison, who produce imaginative menus, have led to many accolades over the years including being named ‘Restaurant of the Year’ twice at the Visit York awards and holding a coveted two AA Rosettes.
