A list of the UK’s best streets for holiday accommodation has been unveiled. Quality in Tourism (QiT), the official assessment service provider for VisitEngland, has produced a league table of those streets within the UK, that have the largest percentage of accommodation outlets which have been accredited.
The top 3 ‘streets of quality’ are Bootham Crescent (York), Southey Street (Keswick), and St Andrews Road (Paignton). To distinguish those streets within the UK that are the best when it comes to quality assessed accommodation, QiT have analysed thousands of streets which have 6 or more holiday accommodation types on, looked at the number of establishments on each street, and then looked at which properties have been assessed by QiT assessors.
Bootham Crescent in York, has been crowned the best street for quality holiday accommodation outlets. The street has 7 hotels and B&Bs, where 6 have a QiT accreditation. Southey Street in Keswick came in 2nd, with 8 holiday properties on its street, and with 6 being accredited. In third spot is St Andrews Road in Paignton. The street has 10 accommodation types, where 7 have been awarded with a QiT accreditation.
Neil Quigley, the Managing Director at Quality in Tourism, said “We assess 18,000 properties a year, so the ‘streets of quality’ project has been a big undertaking. We’ve looked at a lot of streets in great detail, and have spent a lot of time pulling together the relevant facts and figures. Big congratulations go to the streets of Bootham Crescent, Southey Street, and St Andrews Road for making the top 3.”
Other streets in the UK that made it into the ‘streets of quality’ league table included Eskin Street and The Heads (Keswick), Wellesley Road, Trafalgar Road (Great Yarmouth), Ocean Road (South Shields), Bampfylde Road (Torquay), Albert Road, King Edward Avenue, St Chad’s Road, Gynn Ave (Blackpool), Columbus Ravine (Scarborough), and Rutlands Street (Filey).
Neil concluded: “The UK has a thriving hospitality and tourism scene. It’s important for those accommodation types to be congratulated and rewarded when producing a high quality service, and running a high quality establishment. In such a competitive industry, it’s important for hotel owners and so forth to promote themselves as much as they can, and showcase the quality that they are offering. Our ‘streets of quality’ table will help those booking holiday accommodation in the UK; because if they were to book a place on one of the highlighted streets, chances are it will be of high quality, meaning they don’t have to worry about that element of their trip, but just enjoy their holiday break.”
