The Banqueting House, Tyne and Wear
Standing on the highest point of 18th-century landscaped gardens, this unusual building overlooks an ornate octagonal pool and the stunning Derwent Valley beyond.
The Banqueting House was designed by Daniel Garrett, a former assistant of Lord Burlington – the architect behind Chiswick House – and built around 1746. Dogs are welcome in the house, and the extensive grounds, managed by the National Trust, are yours to explore.
