Scottish Hotel Awards 2020: Best Scottish hotels
From city spa resorts to country sports specialists and remote island B&Bs, the Scottish Hotel Awards have announced their national winners for 2020. We round-up some of their winners so you can get ahead with your holiday planning (when it is safe to do so!)
The 2020 Scottish Hotel Awards were announced during a virtual Facebook event on Sunday, April 26th, the date originally scheduled for the annual gala dinner, which had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
“At this difficult time, with all hotels currently closed, we are acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead,” said chairman of judging Gary McLean-Quin. “We hope that the announcement of the 2020 results will give members a valuable boost as they begin to reopen their properties later this year, when the time is right.”
Scotland’s hoteliers and their teams were invited to arrange a Zoom party, don their Sunday best and join in online with a glass of wine or a dram to toast over 100 Scottish Hotel Awards and People of Excellence Awards winners, which were announced via video messages and posts, reaching over 26,000 people over the course of the evening.
“The awards are a genuine and up-to-date reflection of our members’ achievements,” added deputy chairman of judging Vivien Devlin. “Despite the timing of lockdown measures, we were able to complete over 80% of our on-site research and judging this year and, thanks to the depth of knowledge of our panel of expert judges, we were able to agree a full and thorough set of results.”
The overall winner, The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links, was not only named Scottish Hotel of the Year 2020, but also the national Golf Hotel of the Year 2020. Managed by Campbell Gray Hotels and opened in summer 2018, The Machrie has done incredibly well to achieve this prestigious award so quickly.
