This ancient country house hotel is well placed for both town and country, with the Cotswold countryside on the doorstep and the attractive Regency town of Cheltenham just 10 minutes’ away.

Built around 1500, the property had a faltering start, initially sold before building work was completed and quickly passing through a succession of owners. From 1833 the 1st Earl of Ellenborough, Governor General of India bought the estate, changing the house to its current form. Today’s accommodation can be described as modern traditional and interior designer Nina Campbell’s decorative style lends sophistication to the surroundings. Rooms are traditional, classic or luxury; alternatively check into a tower room for 360º countryside views – or opt for a sumptuous suite. Before dinner, stroll through the grounds or treat yourself to one of the hotel’s spa experiences
