Belvoir Castle

    Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire

    Vicky Sartain

An historic castle in the grand style, seat of the Manners family, Dukes of Rutland. Built on an earlier site, the castle today is an outstanding example of Regency work – begun in 1801 under James Wyatt. The Regent’s Gallery is his work, celebrating a visit by the Prince and completed under the Duke’s chaplain and Wyatt’s sons after a fire in 1816. Sumptuous interiors and excellent painting collection, including Poussins.

Features: Statue Gardens with 17th century sculptures built into hillside. Duchess’ private Spring Gardens available for parties.

The HHA represents 1500 privately-owned historic houses, castles and gardens throughout the UK. These are listed buildings or designated gardens, usually Grade I or II*, and are often outstanding. Many are considered to be iconic symbols of Britain’s unique heritage. Visit www.hha.org.uk
