Castles from the clouds: See Wales’s most iconic sites like never before
View the castles of Wales like never before with the help of Cadw’s new aerial footage.
Kidwelly Castle, Laugharne Castle and St Davids Bishop’s Palace are among the first of Wales’s historic sites to be filmed as part of a new series of aerial footage giving viewers a bird’s eye view of some of Wale’s most iconic sites.
Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, is releasing the series called ‘Castles from the Clouds’ as part of its ‘Time Traveller’ campaign, launched in April this year to encourage people to immerse themselves in Welsh history.
The footage was shot using a remote controlled drone equipped with a high quality camera and can be viewed online via Cadw’s YouTube channel.
John Griffiths, Minister for Culture and Sport, said: ‘We’re always looking at new and exciting ways to bring Wales’s history to life and these videos are a good way of showcasing our incredible heritage sites from a different angle.
“More than two and a half million people visit Cadw sites every year but few people will ever have had the opportunity to see them like this.
“Wales’s historic environment gives character to our communities and strengthens a sense of belonging and identity, and we hope that these innovative videos will inspire people to explore their local heritage sites this summer.”
